The Boob Tube

How many of you can recite the latest McDonalds jingle? How about your favorite song front to back? We memorize things everyday. Here is something worth spending the time on! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8919399424910324675

Why don’t we memorize things like this anymore? What do we do with our brains? We watch TV. I can’t tell you how many people I have known who didn’t have enough money for food, found the money for their cable bill. Face it America, we are addicted!

Watching TV is a passive, selfish activity. You don’t need to contribute anything to it. Conversations with humans, reading, board games, any other activity, (even the computer!) you have to contribute something. Not TV. TV allows you to only focus on you and not care about anyone or anything else.

“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:…” Proverbs 23:7

What ever goes on in your brain determines who you are. Now think about what you have allowed Hollywood to put into your head in the last week. that is what you are becoming.

Mass Mind Control Through Network Television - Are Your Thoughts Your Own?
http://100777.com/tv/your_thoughts

A quote: “Experiments conducted by researcher Herbert Krugman reveal that when a person watches television, brain activity switches from the left to the right hemisphere. The left hemisphere is the seat of logical thought. Here, information is broken down into its component parts and critically analyzed. The right brain, however, treats incoming data uncritically, processing information in wholes, leading to emotional, rather than logical responses. The shift from left to right brain activity also causes the release of endorphins, the body's own natural opiates--thus, it is possible to become physically addicted to watching television, a hypothesis borne out by numerous studies which have shown that very few people are able to kick the television habit. It's no longer an overstatement to note that the youth today that are raised and taught through network television are intellectually dead by their early teens.”

This article is very anti-military. I don’t agree with that and really think he has missed the Big Picture. Read the article and then ask yourself how Christians and Christian values are portrayed in the media. The media glorifies materialism and selfishness. It portrays anything typically “manly” as dangerous and stupid. Home is boring. Children are pests and burdens. Marriage a trap. Feminine women are stupid and masculine women are powerful and happy. Honesty, kindness, truth are ridiculed. This propaganda isn’t about getting us to approve of military action, at least not in the long run; it is about getting us to change RELIGIONS! It is about stealing our FREEDOMS!

Out There: People Who Live Without TV
http://www.livescience.com/culture/080904-no-tv.html

Yes, they (we) do exist.

Children who watch TV are more aggressive, less active (making them fatter), less content with what they have.

If you are watching TV you are NOT:
1) exercising
2) talking to friends and family
3) creating things
4) maintaining what you have

You are just sitting there, watching. You are not even thinking, but letting Hollywood do that for you.

And, yes it does affect your behavior. That is why they bother with commercials. Notice that they don’t generally run commercials for things you really need (“Run right out and buy underwear, veggies and basic housing!”) No, they advertise for things you DON’T REALLY NEED! Keep track of the commercials some time and note how many are for unnecessary items (such as fancy, brand-new cars, beer, snack chips, ice cream, diamond rings, etc. All things you could very well live without.)

Am I suggesting you get rid of your TV? Actually, yes You and your family will be healthier physically and mentally if you do. You will go through withdrawals which takes one to two weeks, but you will discover you don’t miss it nearly as much as you think you will. Your children will learn to entertain themselves and be LESS of a problem, too.

In the interest of full disclosure, I do have a TV in my home (just one.) We watch a video carefully selected by my hubby every Saturday and Sunday night that we don’t have other things to do (such as church activities or visiting friends). When the children are very ill I will use the TV to keep them still and quiet so they can rest. That is it. Sum total is four hours per week (most American adults do that per day!)

If you can’t throw the thing out, at least cut it down. You will be surprised at the difference it makes in your home.

Why you might even start thinking your own thoughts!

Thank you so much for commenting! I love to talk to my readers.

I do ask that there be no anonymous commenters, though. If I am brave enough to put my name on this blog, you should be too:-)

Please keep it civil. Remember we are all human and make mistakes, and that since we can't see each other's faces or hear each other's tone of voice, it is very hard to get the emotion in what we are saying each other. Use lots of emoticons! :-) And show grace and love to each other.
