What Happens Next: A Gallimaufry | Female Bodies: A Weighty Issue

"All over the world, women of all bodytypes, ages and ethnicities are
being told by physicians, family members, universities and insurance
companies to try and adhere to a single, “universal” notion of bodily
health that is, in fact, predicated entirely on what was considered
normal for white European men in the mid-1800s....

modelling agencies have been known to recruit at eating disorder clinics, with store mannequins more closely resembling the bodies of anorexic girls than average women, models eating tissues to stay thin and rail-thin models photoshopped to hide their ill-health and prominent ribs: ...

Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental disorder. Women aged 15-24 are twelve times more likely to die of anorexia than of anything else, while 20% of all anorexics die of their illness...

our obsession with the thigh gap is dangerous in and of itself; unless you have a naturally splayed pelvis, it’s only attainable via malnourishment"

Here is how to tell if you are healthy or not:

  • How easily can you get up off the floor? The easier it is, the healthier you are.
  • How long can you walk? The longer you can walk, the healthier you are.
  • Do you poop every day?
How you are shaped has a lot more to do with your genetics, sex, and the country you live in than your health.

We need to quit our prejudicial, self worshiping obsession with our bodies, and thank God for these wonderful gifts He has given us.

"Certainly, Christianity is a relationship with Christ. Of course it is! But there is no relationship with Christ outside of His covenant. And a covenant is by definition a relationship establishing certain bonds—that is, a religion."

Why We Must Be Theology-Loving Christians

"Too often the Bible is something from which we enjoy cherry-picking
pretty verses that make us feel happy at just the time we’re
discouraged. And it can do just that.

But if we view His Word only as a book from which to draw out a few
verses now and then to satisfy us in a particular problem, we have
largely overlooked its meaning and power in our lives. It is, in its
entirety, for our “teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in
righteousness” (2 Tim. 3:16) to equip us for all of life."

Fresh Eggs Daily: Growing Sprouted Fodder for your Chickens plus Chick

Thinking of trying this. It would solve some major problems we have, such as not being able to actually grow plants here (clay soil held together with rocks and sagebrush, freezes in July, dehydrating winds and the local population of quail, sparrows, jack rabbits, and mustangs...yes...I said mustangs. They have been known to eat both our garden and feed stores.) Bought feed is so expensive. And are we really growing a healthier food for ourselves if we are feeding the same commercial garbage the factory farms use?

CULLOWHEE: Fat people aren't the enemy

CULLOWHEE: Fat people aren't the enemy | Other Views | NewsObserver.com: Recently, a team of psychologists from UCLA reviewed the scientific research on the effectiveness of weight-loss regimes. The good news - it is fairly easy for most people to shed up to about10 pounds. The bad news is that nearly all of them will gain the weight back within two years. The even worse news is that between 30 and 60 percent of dieters regain more than they lost.

If weightloss is possible, and we spend more money on weghtloss drugs, food, etc, why aren't we all skinny?

The fact is, it's not possible for the vast majority of people.

When we realize that Atheism is every bit as much a religion as Christianity we just might see a big change in this country. The Constitution was established to ALLOW us to worship whenever and however we want, not to enforce a godless society.

I have seen many challenges to post what you are thankful for. So, though I haven't received any personally, I thought I would chime in:
I have great parents.
I have a wonderful Hubby who I know truly loves me.
Hubby has a job when many in his industry dont right now.
I have great kids.
I have not had to sleep in a hospital in nearly a year.
I have a house that (usually) doesn't leak in the rain.
I have a wonderful skylight in my kitchen (that only leaks if it rains...hard...for several days in a row. I understand that is perfectly normal, though a bit annoying at times:-)
I have a wonderful view of our valley from my rocking chair.
I have a rocking chair:-)
I have running water, heat, cooling, plenty of food, clothes and "junk." (most in the world don't)
I have a car that runs and is big enough to hold my whole family.
I have a nice dog.
I have a nice cat.
I have a geko, finches, beta fish, 15 rabbits (trying to get some of those moved to the freezer) and 22 chickens.
I have land. Might be rocks held together with clay and sagebrush, but it's mine:-)
I don't have to be afraid of being beheaded for going to Bible study tonight.
I don't have to worry about going to jail because my kids won't be getting on the yellow bus in a couple of weeks.
I have been blessed with the chance to teach my own kids.
I have a baby, green tomato (first in a couple of years)

I will live in Heaven some day because Jesus loved me enough to pay my way there.

Common Core's Growing Unpopularity

Common Core's Growing Unpopularity

There is a good reason for this.

ALL education is both religious and political. If your religion and politics do not agree with the teacher's union, your parental authority IS being undermined. And that is BEFORE Common Core.

You do still have the freedom to have your child educated outside the government system (unlike in Germany where you will go to jail for doing so)

And if you own a computer of smart phone you have more resources available for your child's education than any other generation in history (and if you don't have either of those you aren't reading this:-D)

Shooting the Wounded

Why, o why, to conservative shoot the wounded?

I regularly see posts on facebook and in blogs that sneer at foodstamp, et al, recipients. Nearly daily. And they cheer drug-tests-for welfare and workfare programs.

Because of our ministry I have known many people over my life who have taken foodstamps. Yes, some are having hard times because of bad descesions thay have made in the past. But you can't unscramble the egg. What are these people supposed to do now? Put the illegitamate kids back? Go back and not drop out of college 20 years ago?

We all make mistakes, conservative friends. "But for the grace of God, there go I."

Some are on aid through not fault of their own. They simply have had bad luck or the supposed recover hasn't appeared in their neighborhood yet.

Nearly everyone I knwo who has had to take government help would have (and did) drop that help the minute the could. The entire system is degrading and humiliating. Very few would stay on it who honestly felt they had an option. And statistics show that the majority on aid have jobs. They are working people, not couch potatoes.

What, conservative friend, would you say to the woman who has been out of work for a year and a half, applying everywhere possible in every industry she could possibly physically do, but still unable to find regular work? The (real) friend I am thinking of now pulls weeds in other peoples gardens and does work on the computer just to pay her rent. You her lazy?  Saying, what, she shouldn't be allowed to eat because her industry shut down?

Two other families I know, he works overtime every week. She scrimps and saves every penny possible while taking care of their pre-school aged kids (daycare costs more than she could make in either case). They still find that without FS they would have to choose between rent and food.

It's not these people's fault that there are no jobs. It's not these people's faults that the companies they do work for are having their taxes raised so fast they have nothing left for raises.

These are the victems of our economy; of our socialist, anti job way of government. They are NOT the cause of your high taxes.

GM is.
Farmers taking money to not grow crops are.
Drug companies that get laws passed so they can't be sued but everyone is required to take their product are.
Greedy politicians are.
Corporate Cronyism is.

Not the mom and dad who are just trying to keep body and soul together any way they can.

Conservatives, if you want the poor to quit voting for the dems, if you want the poor to back you, QUIT BLAMING THEM FOR THE MESS WE ARE IN!!!

Start holding the ones responsible, the politicians and their crony supporters, fat cat business men that would rather bribe an official than compete in a  fair market place, RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR MESS!

DON'T TOUCH ANY HELP TO THE POOR!

QUIT POSTING INSULTS TO THEM!

Trust me. If you fix the real problems with this country so that there ARE jobs for the poor, they will take themselves off the dole. They will let go of your pocket.

The only reason they are holding it now...

is to keep from falling into the abyss!

Cleaning problems

I have several issues with cleaning that really cause some problems:

1) Allergies. Hubby has several allergies, including something that randomly causes him to break out in hives for no apparent reason. This means I have always had to be careful what I used in the house. We have only ever used Ivory bath soap (and the occasional homemade/artisian soaps which don't seem to affect him). I have never been able to use fabric softener (plain vinegar works fine).

Then a decade and a half ago I began to to have asthma attacks. The biggest cause was an onion allergy, but I am also allergic to the dust mites we used to have in our basement and certain cleaning products. Moving took care of the basement problem (that isn't why we moved. Getting rid of those types of dust mites was just a nice side affect).

And I now have to very careful which cleaners I use, especially in the bathroom.

Then my daughters began randomly breaking out in hives. My second youngest, especially would get these horrible hives that dried out her skin, making it crack and bleed.

Now, my oldest kids have complained about various dish soaps causing them to break out so it shouldn't have surprised me when God pointed out that my hivyest kid always broke out on the days she washed dishes.

Oh.

We immediatly switched to hypo-alergenic dishsoap and I began to make my own laundry soap. The laundry soap is doing great and I'm trying to make my own dishsoap too, but it isn't working well:-(

Anyway, I am looking for a bathroom cleaner that will clean AND let me breathe! How about plain ole white vinegar?

What do you think?

Never clean a bathroom again?!

Today's thought:

If I spend two hours cleaning my bathroom today, how long will it take to clean it tomorrow?

3 minutes? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfJiFBqIjPE

If I spend 3 minutes cleaning my bathroom everyday (but Sunday of course) will I EVER have to spend 2 hours cleaning it again?

In my entire life?

Somtimes I'm a little stupid.... and slow

I was thinking about how to keep my house cleaner the other day and a line from the Messie's Manuel popped into my head.

"I asked my cleany friends how they did it.... she only spends an hour a day cleaning....she only spends two hours a day cleaning..."

Duh.

How stupid can I be? I've been reading these books for more than 30 years!

They devote 1-2 hours per day to keeping their houses up to standard. They actually maintenance-clean everyday for an hour or two.

Since then (about two weeks ago) I've been cleaning each room in the house everyday. I began with just the three main ones (again, no more than an hour or two) and added a bit everyday, cleaned each room a bit deeper everyday, never spending more than 2 hours in the morning (with a quick pick up before Hubby gets home). It has made a tremendous difference! My carpet feels cleaner, there's no longer crumbs under the furniture, everything is neat and pleasant, even the kids rooms.

It takes me two hours to wipe down both bathrooms (not tubs or shower, just counter, sink, mirror, toilet and vacuum or sweep the floor), neaten and vacuum the living and computer rooms, kids rooms, and dining room, kitchen and laundry room. I don't sweep the last three since that is children chores, but I do restore order, neaten, water plants and do the laundry.

I feel kind of stupid for not getting it before, but it works.

How to Separate School and State

It is common for posters to go all over facebook on a regular basis blasting anyone who needs foodstamps. This makes me MAD. Most of those posting those things have their children and grandchildren in government school. They are ten times the sponge that the foodstamps family is (talking about sheer dollars per person). Hypocrites is what they really are:

"I'm getting my goodies and you can just go hungry!"

How to Separate School and State: A Primer : The Freeman : Foundation for Economic Education:

You don't like what happens in government schools? GET YOUR KIDS OUT!

Any healthy American couple can find a way to do it. And every church in America should be helping those parents that don't qualify as "healthy" or "couple."

And with a computer in every pocket that has access to more information than all the teachers in any government school put together, there is no longer a need to educate our children the way the Greeks did 3000 years ago.

"Why do Christian parents send their children to government schools that noisily promise to undermine everything they hold dear?...

As an institution, government monopoly schooling, like Communism, has no human face. It is by definition coercive, corrosive, and usurpative. Our goal is not a sensitive and flexible tyranny, but an arrangement for learning that is entirely voluntary, with full authority restored to families, which in turn educate their children not in servility and fear, but in honorable obedience to duty and love....

A rule of thumb is that if something can be reformed, it’s probably controlled by the government. A business may retool, restructure, and even revamp, but it only reforms when so commanded by government. The whole notion of education reform should be rethought—and rejected....

Irving Kristol’s first law of educational reform: Any reform that is acceptable to the educational establishment, and that can gain a majority in a legislature, federal or state, is bound to be worse than nothing....

If government had taken over the family’s duty to feed their children, and zoned kids into neighborhood feeding stations for all their meals, we wouldn’t argue that families had in fact retained the duty to feed their children, by pointing out that they still paid their taxes."

Read the whole article. It has some good ideas and encouraging statistics.
