This author is right!
These homemade peeps are MUCH better than store bought!!!
Well worth the work (about twice what a cake from a mix would be. Maybe a bit more).

Christmas Candy with Meaning?
Nice service yesterday, though I haven't felt good the last couple of days. Joy and Jessie were down Saturday too, mildly. Jennifer yesterday. Seems we are still being sick often, but the illnesses are more mild and shorter. Hopefully we are on the way up, health wise.
Almost time for Easter. Not a good thing for health. I wonder if I can make some treats that won't be so bad. Maybe sugar cookies in the shape of Easter eggs, colored by the kids (instead of dying eggs which is just a waste since we don't like eating boiled eggs that much), but made of wheat that has had the phyctic acid neutralized. Maybe sweetened with Stevia? Or at least honey and maple syrup. Wonder if there is a candy I can make in a healthier way, too.
You see, I mentioned that we always get sick the week I intend to start school back after Christmas, and my brilliant daughter Joy asked if it could be that we eat so much worse (lots of candy) at Christmas time.
Oh.
Duh.
So I've been toying with the idea of changing Christmas around. Not happy with the random candies we've been buying just to fill the stockings anyway. No sentiment there at all.
It occurred to me the other day that Easter is the same way. So onto today's "to do" list will go researching some healthier alternatives to the normal Easter candies, and maybe getting an order ready from Amazon or Oriental Trading company for some little toys to put in the plastic Easter eggs we hide, instead of candy (oh, we'll probably still buy some candy, just not nearly so much.)
Hiding plastic Easter eggs? Each younger child gets their own color of egg with treats in it. The older ones hide them and then help them find them if needed. The older ones just get their treats straight in their baskets, since they don't care about either hunting eggs or having them to play with later.
Works great.
The toddler of the year (Josh at the moment) simply looks for his own color. No one gets more or less than anyone else:-)

In Response to “The Anti-Vaccination Epidemic” by Paul A. Offit -
"First of all, there are many studies which validate
parents' concerns. These studies are peer-reviewed, published and happen
to not by funded by or written by authors that have affiliations with
pharmaceutical companies.
Second of all, many of the
studies which are referenced by vaccine promoters are mired by serious
accusations of ethics violations. From conflicts of interest between
study authors and funding sources, to a lead scientist being indicted on
federal charges and placed on the FBI Most Wanted list after becoming
an international fugitive (the fraud in question related directly to the
work he did as a vaccine safety researcher), to a current CDC epidemiologist's recorded allegations of scientific misconduct
orchestrated by his colleagues and supervisors at the federal agency
... the foundation upon which supposed vaccine safety and efficacy stand
is significantly cracked."
Again, Answer these two questions:

Again, Answer these two questions:
- How do we know vaccines actually work? These diseases declined significantly BEFORE the vaccines were introduced. Likely the same thing that caused that first decline caused the later one. There have been no studies done by people who did not stand to gain a bazillion dollars that have shown vaccines to be safe and affective. Just prove they actually work.
- Are the diseases worse than the side affects? We now know that the 2004 "Vaccines don't cause autism" study actually did prove the shots cause autism, beyond a shadow of a doubt. The researchers LIED! And the rise of immuno dysfunction diseases (allergies, asthma, diabetes, MS, FM, CF, Lupus, RA and cancer) is just too high to not know SOMETHING is wrong with our society. Vaccines are the biggest suspect (screw with the immune system, you screw up the immune system). I would rather my child have mumps than diabetes, measles than asthma, chicken pox than MS. And polio (usually just a bad cough) than cancer (yes, there is a link!)

My Family Stopped Eating Sugar for a Year and This is What Happened | Healthy Living - Yahoo Shine
My Family Stopped Eating Sugar for a Year and This is What Happened | Healthy Living - Yahoo Shine
I would love to do this.
Hubby was just diagnosed pre-diabetic.
I am yploglycimic and have been gestational diabetic in the past.
Several of my children show symptoms of hypoglycemics. Notably, according to my research tooth decay is a symptom of blood sugar problems. Several of my kids have bad cavities. Oddly, two of them have none, so it can't be our diet or environment.
But this would require such an extreme change in our diets, I really don't think it's possible. Now if Hubby were to declare we were doing it, then maybe. Or if God moved us to the mission field. But otherwise, well, I'm doing the best I can. I'm back to being the meany who doesn't allow any sweets so the ones others offer don't do as much damage.
It is very hard though.

Continued Musings on Herbs
One big problem I have is that I live in a small house. Well, no, actually, it is the size of an average American home.
But my family is not.
With 11 of us living here we are, uh, a bit cozy.
I have had to give up one kitchen cupboard to my herbs already.
Plus one self in my dining room for experiments and projects.
And a spot in my bedroom for essential oils.
And another shelf in the dining room to try to grow stuff.
Not to mention a place for allopathic meds that I haven't gotten away from moving yet, partly because I don't have an herbal remedy ready when I need it.
So now I need to have a place to put tinctures and oils, too? High. Anyone have a nice big house to give a way? With lost of cupboards? Near my parents?

Thoughts and Ramblings on Natural Medicines.
I've been studying herbs for some time. I am whole-heartedly convinced that in most cases they are better than "normal medicines" (the proper term is "allopathic.")
I have tried a couple of homeopathic medicines too. Not nearly convinced on these, but my research says they can't do any harm. I must say, they have had great success, but I have this nagging suspecion that that success is due a whole lot more to the placebo affect than anything else. Still, as Hubby says, if it works does it matter why?
Lately I have tried essential oils, also. Again some success.
But the fact is that there is just no the scientific support for essential oils and homeopathic meds as there is for herbals, herbals are more natural (read that: God Made), and I can grow them myself, aiding my goal of self sufficiency.
So where do I go from here?
I think I will replace the HO that we have used up and keep them on hand.
I will probably keep the EO's on hand too, at least a few of them.
But maybe I need to really set down and learn to make tinctures (buying them in quantities large enough for my family is too expensive. I once bought a bottle of tincture that cost more than $10....and used the entire thing in one sitting while treating a family-wide flu. Yeah, that ain't happening.)
So how do I proceed? I have a number of dried herbs on hand. Do I just go in and get them all going as tinctures? Well, after a run to the store since we are teetotalers and don't happen to have that much vodka on hand! :-D (Yep, and that will be the one time I run into someone I am trying to get to go to church, when I have a cart full of vodka, lol.)
Or do I just make up what I think I actually need in the near future? Well not so near. It takes six weeks to make a tincture.
Hmmmm. the more I think about it the more it seems the way to go would be to just make up everything I already have on hand so I have it when I need it.
I can do the same with oils, actually.
I did make up some arnica oil a while back to use on Hubby. Turns out I'm using it more on me. My hands have been falling asleep during the night. The arnica oil does seem to reduce this.
Anyway, if you hear rumors of me having a drinking problem, you'll know I just went out and bought what I need for my tinctures:-)

The Well-Rounded Mama: Placenta Accreta: Brandy's Story
The Well-Rounded Mama: Placenta Accreta: Brandy's Story
The story of a mom's experience with complications from unnecessary c-sections. Most women are never told their are possible problems down the road, and too many doctors manipulate women into c-sections they just don't need.
And to the statement "You should just be glad you and baby are health," Hello! a woman with a scar across her belly, recovering from major, abdominal surgery is NOT healthy! She is damaged.
When a c-section is truly necessary (and occasionally it is) it is wonderful to have it available. That doesn't mean the mom isn't hurt. She still lost the expected experience of normal birth and she and baby still have to deal with the side affects (and yes, baby has side affects of an unnatural birth too, such as greater risk of asthma later in life.)
But when it is done for the benefit of the doctor or hospital (more money, less law suits, more time control) as it way too often in our country, it is an assault on the woman's body and her baby. It should be criminal!

AMAZING open letter from a young doctor to Obama: “Mr. President, I’m leaving the medical field” | Young Conservatives
What can I say?
I believe the demand for non-traditional medical care is fixing to explode. When sick people have to wait six months to see their doctor, they don't have a lot of other choice.

Why I Stopped Being Dogmatic About My Diet
Why I Stopped Being Dogmatic About My Diet… | The Prairie Homestead
Yeah, I'm about here too. After a while, you begin to feel like you can never eat anything. You're always the bad guy with the kids, too.
So I propose a milder idea: let's listen to that the Bible says about health and listen to our God given taste-buds and appetites.
EAt when you're hungry. Don't when you're not (except as needed to keep blodd sugar balanced if that applies to you)
Eat fresh, God made foods in combinations and amounts that you want to.
Now we should try to be as natural as possible, but you know what? Life is fatal. We won't get out of it alive no matter how good we eat.
Eternal life is not found on the dinner plate.
It's found through Jesus and ONLY through Jesus.

Long-Term Implications of a High Cesarean Rate in Obese Women
The Well-Rounded Mama: Long-Term Implications of a High Cesarean Rate in Obese Women
C-section are major, abdominal surgury. They should be treated as such.
I thank the Lord we have them available when really necessary, but WHO says no nation should have a rate outside of 5-10% and many people think it should be lower still. America now has 33% of her babies born through the tummy instead of the vagina.
One Third.
And the number is higher among fat women.
When a doctor sees a fat woman enter his office he automatically thinks "complication waiting to happen." This is so severe that in some cases doctors have told a fat woman to get an abortion and then wait until she loses weight to get pregnant again.
2) Some studies are hinting that if the doctor expects a complication, he acts preventatively, interfering before a problem happens. What this means is the doctor thinks there MIGHT be a complication and interferes in the natural process with the idea that it's better to interfere unnecessarily than to see if the complication will actually occur. This, then, is labeled as a complication in itself (the doctor's thinking a complication might occur). What seems to actually be happening with fat women is that the doctor assumes there will be problems and overreacts, causing the woman to be labeled a problem when there isn't any problems. This, in and of itself, raises the "complication rate" for fat women. Their actual rate if left alone may very well be no higher than a skinny woman's, but we are so fat-phobic it will be a long time until we know.
3) Doctors telling their patients to murder their babies just because mom is higher on a scale than the weight-loss-industry-funded charts say she should be? Really?
4) These doctors are making the same assumption most of our country makes: fat people could lose weight if they only tried, but are too lazy and weak to do it.
b) Socio-economic standard plays an even bigger part in weight. Telling a fat woman who can't afford fruit and veggies, gym memberships, or exercise equipment, who lives in a culture of BBQs instead of Ballets to "just lose weight" is down-right cruel.
c) God put mechanisms in place to keep us from starving during a famine. Our bodies don't know the difference between a diet and a famine. So when we diet our metabolism slows down, our fat retention kicks into high gear, our body sends messages that we had better hunt harder for some food RIGHT NOW! Our bodies actively work against us in losing weight.
d) The weight standards are, according to studies, set way too low for optimum health, unless of course, the health you are concerned about is that of the weight-loss industry.
2) Our nations higher rate of dark skin than in the past (minorities have always averaged higher weight. It is natural for them and unhealthy to be any different. Minority groups are growing. So our average skin is getting darker and our average body heavier. This is NOT a bad thing.
There is also some studies that indicate obesity is influenced more by corn syrup, possibly a virus, and dieting itself (dieting makes you fat by making your body think food is scarce and holding on to it harder) than by laziness and weakness.
Anyway, This article lists many of the complications of c-section,which makes it even more likely that a fat woman will have complications in her future pregnancies and her own health. It's the doctor's interference that is the problem, not the woman's weight.

When a doctor sees a fat woman enter his office he automatically thinks "complication waiting to happen." This is so severe that in some cases doctors have told a fat woman to get an abortion and then wait until she loses weight to get pregnant again.
There are some BIG problems with this.
1) Yes, fat women have a higher complication rate. That means that 15% instead of 10% will have problems. To word this another way, 80% instead of 85% will have no problems. This is hardly the Dooms-Day scenario most healthcare providers seem to think it is. It means that the vast majority of fat women will go ahead and have normal, healthy pregnancies and deliveries.2) Some studies are hinting that if the doctor expects a complication, he acts preventatively, interfering before a problem happens. What this means is the doctor thinks there MIGHT be a complication and interferes in the natural process with the idea that it's better to interfere unnecessarily than to see if the complication will actually occur. Just t'aint true.
a) Not everyone is cut from the same cookie cutter. Genetics determines a BIG part of our weight. You just can't starve genetics out of a person.b) Socio-economic standard plays an even bigger part in weight. Telling a fat woman who can't afford fruit and veggies, gym memberships, or exercise equipment, who lives in a culture of BBQs instead of Ballets to "just lose weight" is down-right cruel.

The fact is that our nations higher average weight is the result of...
1) Not starving near to death every winter (a GOOD thing!)2) Our nations higher rate of dark skin than in the past (minorities have always averaged higher weight. Raw Milk Sales on the Rise -- No Illness Seen
Raw Milk Sales on the Rise -- No Illness Seen
We owned a cow when Jane was a baby. She could drink raw milk from our own cow with no problems, but if I drank pasteurized milk, ate ANY form of commercial dairy, or she consumed any store bought dairy she got very sick (thankfully she outgrew this). I have a friend that is the same way. Yet in our state it is illegal to sell raw milk. Thus, those humans in government arbitrarily have decided it is better for my friend and child to have no milk or be sick. What right do they have to make that decision for me and my friend?
We owned a cow when Jane was a baby. She could drink raw milk from our own cow with no problems, but if I drank pasteurized milk, ate ANY form of commercial dairy, or she consumed any store bought dairy she got very sick (thankfully she outgrew this). I have a friend that is the same way. Yet in our state it is illegal to sell raw milk. Thus, those humans in government arbitrarily have decided it is better for my friend and child to have no milk or be sick. What right do they have to make that decision for me and my friend?

Is the Contraceptive NuvaRing Killing Thousands? The Full Investigation | Vanity Fair
Is the Contraceptive NuvaRing Killing Thousands? The Full Investigation | Vanity Fair
ALL hormonal birthcontrols are dangerous to some degree.
ALL women need to understand that what they are choosing is to take/use a dangerous chemical so they can screw around and not get a precious, little baby.
And, yes, I know married women use chemical birth controls too. I did for four years. We have been lied to. We have been told that it is better to take the chances of pulmanary embolism, etc (including cancer) than to have a/more babies.
It' is time we women wake up and demand that we are treated better. It is time we realized that birthcontrol has not been a boon for womanhood, but has enslaved us. We now have no purpose to men but as sexual playthings.
Now, don't get me wrong; i like sex. It is fun.
But the truth is that all the negative consequences fall on me. If I get pregnant I am teh one who has to figure out how to take care of me and Baby. If I take BC I am the one who gets cancer.
This is why God made marriage: it protects women. It works like this:
Man: I want sex more than anything else.
Woman: I like sex, but I can't support myself while suffering from morning sickness and going through postpartum recovery.
Man: How about if I promise before God and the community that I will take care of you during your times of greatest weakness and help you raise the children that happen with sex?
Woman: Deal! (and I get sex to boot! Cool:-)
Today's attitude towards sex gives men all they want, women nothing they want or need, and risks women's lives.
And this doesn't even address the destruction it does to the children who do manage to get born.

the lewis note: Why miscarriage matters when you're pro-life
the lewis note: Why miscarriage matters when you're pro-life
When asked, I say I have nine children. In my heart I say "Thirteen." It hurts too much to try to explain, and most people wouldn't understand anyway.
My four babies in heaven are very much missed and loved.
Yes, they are humans, just as much as the nine sitting here watching tv with me. And to myself, I say them in my lineup of children. Their names are Faith (who would be 17), Peace (5), Truth (4)and Victory (3). I look forward to seeing them in heaven some day, but, oh how I miss them today.

Top Ten Signs Your Doctor Is Planning To Perform An Unnecessary Cesarean Section On You | Cesarean Section | Blog
Top Ten Signs Your Doctor Is Planning To Perform An Unnecessary Cesarean Section On You | Cesarean Section | Blog
God designed women to give birth. If women really needed c-section as often as they are being preformed in this country the human race would have died out long ago.
However, c-section are better for the doctor (he has better control of his schedule, less likely to be sued, and it pays better) and the hospital (pays better and quicker in and out since they don't have to wait for baby to get here).
Mom's shouldn't have to fight for the right to not be damaged during birth for the profit of the doctor and hospital.
But sadly, they often do.
