‘Deselecting’ our children - The Globe and Mail
YOu know a better way to get rid of all Downs Syndrome would be to just kill them after they are born. After all, the tests aren't always right either way, with both false positives and negatives. If we just wait until they are born to kill them we will be sure to only get the right ones.
If that thought disturbs you, so should aborting a baby because it's not perfect.
Honestly, I don't even get the tests anymore. If there is something "wrong" with my baby, I will love him and raise him anyway. Honestly, since I seem to only be able to birth human beings, all my babies have flaws, so what if this one isn't as smart or pretty? He would be better than the others in other ways.
If we continue to make it ok to kill a baby because he has Down's, how long before we kill anyone who isn't perfect due to a car acceident, illness, or some other cause?
Once we start playing God, we are in very dangerous teritory.

Thank you so much for commenting! I love to talk to my readers.
I do ask that there be no anonymous commenters, though. If I am brave enough to put my name on this blog, you should be too:-)
Please keep it civil. Remember we are all human and make mistakes, and that since we can't see each other's faces or hear each other's tone of voice, it is very hard to get the emotion in what we are saying each other. Use lots of emoticons! :-) And show grace and love to each other.
