American Thinker: Tiger Mother, Burning Bright
I think (the stereotypical) American parents are just as intense as "Tiger Mom." The difference is that instead of focusing their energies on academic and musical performance they focus on:
popularity
fashion
individualism
entertainment
They are JUST as intense.
We really need a balance between the two. We need a dedication to excellence that "Tiger mom" has found but with the knowledge that we are all gifted in different areas and society can't function with 300 million concert pianists and no doctors. We need to acknowledge that our child may be called to an area we don't understand but we need to hold them accountable to preform to their personal best potential in that area.

Thank you so much for commenting! I love to talk to my readers.
I do ask that there be no anonymous commenters, though. If I am brave enough to put my name on this blog, you should be too:-)
Please keep it civil. Remember we are all human and make mistakes, and that since we can't see each other's faces or hear each other's tone of voice, it is very hard to get the emotion in what we are saying each other. Use lots of emoticons! :-) And show grace and love to each other.
