Food Stamps and School

It is that time again when anti-food stamps posts circulate around facebook. I find this very annoying. Let me ask you, what is the difference between food stamps and public school, social security, farm subsidies, medicare, business bailouts, medicaid, etc? I literally see no difference. Oh, I agree we need to get rid of charity programs, but let's start with the oldest biggest give-away programs and apply all the rules the same. (50% of EVERY state's budget goes to public school.) Before you can enroll your child in public school you must:
  • Submit proof of your income to prove you can't afford to educate your child yourself.
  • List all your household expenses such as utilities and give that list to a total stranger.
  • Pass a drug test to prove your inability to afford private education is not because you are a doper.
  • Repeat this list twice a year.

Before you receive Social Security you must:

  • Submit proof of your income to prove you can't afford to support yourself.
  • List all your household expenses such as utilities and give that list to a total stranger.
  • Pass a drug test to prove your inability to afford to support yourself is not because you are a doper.
  • Repeat this list twice a year.
What? You don't think we should do this? As a tax payer, I would much rather buy a little kid food than pay from some middle class parent's vacation by reliving their education expenses. I would rather pay for a child's breakfast than some rich person's fancy house. We need to get rid of ALL government charity programs. It is not the place of government to provide charity. That is the place of the family and church. But let's start with the least necessary, most expensive, most damaging programs first.

Thank you so much for commenting! I love to talk to my readers.

I do ask that there be no anonymous commenters, though. If I am brave enough to put my name on this blog, you should be too:-)

Please keep it civil. Remember we are all human and make mistakes, and that since we can't see each other's faces or hear each other's tone of voice, it is very hard to get the emotion in what we are saying each other. Use lots of emoticons! :-) And show grace and love to each other.
